Schedule a Visit Today!

We’re already in the second month of 2023 and maybe you’ve procrastinated about your diet long enough. After eating and drinking too much over the holidays, you may have found it hard to get back into a good eating groove.

You’re not alone. Many people struggle with getting back on track when it comes to their eating.

With that in mind, here are seven tips to help you reset your eating habits and get back to a healthier you.

  1. Be intentional when it comes to eating. At mealtime, take your time. Eat deliberately, slow down and don’t rush. Be sure to enjoy both your company and your meal. By taking a deliberate approach, your consciously enjoying the moment and also helping your digestion system by not overwhelming it. One of the worst things you can do is stuffing yourself at mealtime and eating too fast.
  2. Don’t overdo it in the evening time. By avoiding big, sugary desserts or snacks in the late evening, you’re helping your body. When you go to bed on a sugar rush or too full, it can affect your sleep patterns, not to mention lead you to suffer from indigestion, heartburn, and other issues. Finish eating two to three hours before you go to bed. That’s plenty of time for your body to digest the food and you won’t battle feeling stuffed.
  3. Drink water. Here’s a diet hack: Start your day with warm water and add fresh-squeezed lemon juice. Sip it through the day if you need to. Also, drink it as a replacement to your morning cup of coffee. You can still have your coffee, just drink it at least an hour later than you normally do. Sipping on fresh green tea before and after meals also helps your metabolism and digestion.
  4. Include fresh fruits and vegetables at mealtime and for snacks. Fruits, vegetables, and even plant-based protein can be great sources of nutrition. They’re perfect for cleaning out toxins in your kidneys and liver. The apples, pears, citrus, berries, dried fruits, nuts dark green vegetables, sweet potatoes, peppers, and other fruits and vegetables should be a big part of your diet. They are also great as snacks.
  5. Try fasting intermittently. One way to cleans your body and to improve your diet is to eat during an eight-hour window of the day. For example, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you need to work up to that, start with a 12-hour fast such as 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Then you can work up to fasting for 14 hours, or 16 hours.
  6. Stay active. Movement is a good thing. Be sure you exercise regularly by walking, jogging, or swimming, or doing yoga, Pilates, dance, or other exercises. These are all great for both your body and mind. Getting the fresh outside air with walking or jogging, or even something as simple as stretching, lifting weights, or other physical activity will help you reset your body.
  7. Avoid sugary and alcoholic drinks. A healthy diet also includes avoiding drinks with a lot of sugar and calories. These can include alcohol, juices, soda, and other similar drinks.
