Making the Most of the Holidays

Schedule a Visit Today! Holiday Cookies

The Holidays are just around the corner, and it’s the perfect time to celebrate and enjoy the best of the winter season! With COVID-19, holiday celebrations may look slightly different this year, but like anything, the holidays are what you make of them. There are many ways to celebrate this beautiful time of year, with crafts and activities perfect for adults of all ages. Here are 3 ideas for holiday crafts and activities that can help you and your loved ones enjoy the holidays this year.

1. Holiday Dinner (over Zoom!)

Part of the holiday season is enjoying the company of loved ones. But with COVID-19, it may not be possible this year for everyone. However, that doesn’t mean the season cannot be enjoyed by all. Getting the family together on Zoom is a great way to create a sense of normalcy during these challenging times. Why not schedule a candlelight holiday dinner where family and friends can join with a delicious meal together? There are many fun games that can be played on zoom as well – holiday-themed charades, for example.

2. Holiday Wreath Making

There is something incredibly satisfying about do-it-yourself projects. Making your own Holiday décor can be simple, fun, and a great way to enjoy the holidays. A wreath is an easy way to bring the holiday cheer into the senior living community and you only need a few supplies: a foam wreath, lots of bows for wrapping, and a hot glue gun. Simply glue the gift bows into the foam wreath, and soon enough, you have a beautiful piece of holiday décor. If family visitors aren’t permitted, having others in a senior living community join in together is a great way to socialize and get creative! Alternatively, families can craft together on zoom and make fantastic décor while catching up during the holiday season.

3. Create Cookie-Cutter Ornaments for Friends and Loved Ones

Cookie-cutter ornaments are a fantastic way to craft something memorable for friends or loved ones. You can even create ornaments for the holiday tree in your senior living community! A simple way to create gorgeous ornaments is to use holiday-themed cookie cutters and bring them to life. Here are 3 easy steps to making cookie cutter ornaments:

  1. Using wrapping paper (glued to cardstock), trace the shape of the cookie cutter and cut it out.
  2. Glue the cookie-cutter to the decorated card using white craft glue.
  3. Using a hot glue gun, glue the ribbon to the top and knot-it.

In a senior living community, there is no shortage of crafters – getting together as a group with some music and crafts is a great way to bring the holiday spirit home. As an added bonus, these creations make great gifts for family and friends.

Holidays are a great way to come together as a group and celebrate. During times like this, the sense of connection in a senior living community is more important than ever. Whether chatting on zoom, crafting at home, or taking part in holiday-themed activities with friends, there are many ways to enjoy and celebrate the season this year.
